What NATO Should Do in Kosovo

(Suggestion taken from Internet article on December 4, 2002)

1. NATO should protect all civilians from mob violence and terrorist attacks, and halt efforts to make Kosovo a "Serb-free", ethnically-pure state.

2. NATO should resist efforts by the KLA to re-make Kosovo into independent nation, or a de facto independent nation, so that the dangerous concept of a "Greater Albania" in the region is contained and eliminated.

3. NATO should clearly restate its role as a purely defensive alliance, or set up clear, concise guidelines to govern future military interventions, if that is to be its new role and mission.

4. NATO should actively seek to include non-NATO nations in KFOR, as the U.N. resolution provides, including Russia and nations outside of Europe.
